If our religion is Christianity and it is monotheistic, why do we slip in some minor gods through the back door in the guise of their being saints. Some Catholics and others venerate these as gods. And, unlike the Revealed Truth of the Bible, the accounts of these "saints" is highly suspect.
And the wearing of candles on girls' headdresses for St. Lucia's Day is dangerous!

Can There Be Too Little Bikini?
There is a small but real difference between wearing lingerie and wearing a bikini in public. This is a distinction that sometimes skirts the limits in some cases; for example, swimsuits that are trimmed in lace or those styled as French bikinis or string bikinis. Obviously, this is something that prurient men would quibble about the difference, aor even argue that there is none, I question whether most females would don a "bikini" that resembles something that looks like you would wear under your clothing. Or one that very easily comes undone with improper exposure resulting.
Having confidence in your physical self is nice; but not to the extent that you exhibit your body in total immodesty. This seems to be a vice particularly rampant on beaches in the south. Maybe our colder climate here is a barrier to that; but Lord knows, it also occurs in Scandanavia!
The difference between a bikini and a bikini that resembles lingerie is how much clothing and what type of material you're actually wearing. If you're going to the beach, the lake, the river or any other type of water event, you should probably avoid wearing any type of bikini with lace, see-through material or something that does not completely cover your breasts, bottom, and behind. Please, please, don't hint at your breasts or buttocks by wearing semitransparent lingerie-like material, or by showing cleavage on either side.
A lot of guys, especially non-Christian ones, would probably disagree with me. But I must ask you this: would you approve of your sister or wife wearing that swimsuit that makes the wearer appear half-naked? Or would you mind her appearing in public in a swimsuit that looks like lingerie?
Whether we like to admit it or not, clothes do make the woman. And wearing too little indicates that the wearer is predisposed to be sexually provocative. It tells, for better or worse, what kind of person she is. Percedptions are too often accurate.
Lingerie is meant for the bedroom, so why do some women think it is okay to wear swimsuits that are extremely brief or lingerie-like in public settings where others can see? It may be marketed as a swimsuit; but its extremely brief, see-through qualities (to mention two points) move it more in the direction of being lingerie.
It is our role as women to seta moral tone in relationships. There is a real distinction between a swimsuit and lingerie. Be tasteful, God-fearing, and prudent in your choices. You do not have to wear a one-piece swimsuit; but a tasteful two-piece one should include full coverage of the crotch, breasts, and buttocks. The bottom should be more like shorts than whisps of cloth.

Beginning of the Disintegration
It looks like we're seeing the first stages of the breakup of the Republican Party. Already moderates like Chris Christie and Bobby Jindal are scolding the extreme, intolerant right for their role in the debacle of two weeks ago.
I look for a continual erosion of this white elephant of politics, and more up-to-date liberal outlook in America's future.

Ashley Judd for Senator!
Ashley Judd, an actress and philanthropist might run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in 2014.
The Louisville Courier Journal reported Judd is eying McConnell's Senate seat, which is up for grabs in 2014. Judd campaigned for President Barack Obama in 2012.
College basketball fans will also recognize Judd, who has starred in films including "Double Jeopardy." She is almost always present at men's basketball games at her alma mater, the University of Kentucky.

After the Election
Maybe the time has come now to universally recognize that the Republican Party is obsolete. It has become largely a party of white males and crackers, in their limited scope leaving the rest of the citizens out in the cold. It generates no proposals for government; it merely serves as a brake on any type of progress, nut only for a while.
It's largely something to be lampooned now; it is so easily ridiculed even Jon Stewart can do it.
But, with the fading of the Republican Party, what can take its place? The present major parties have been around competing since 1856, when John Fremont ran against James Buchanan. Previous attempts at a third party failed dismally, except for Theodore Roosevelt's Progressives in 1912.
We should have a era of Democratic progress, before any Republican resurgance or a third party becomes strong enough. Maybe the people can become acceptant of a larger parricipation of government in their lives. I hope so.

The Backward Side of America
While I will not include all of the states whose Electoral Votes went for Romney and Paul, a number of them seem to be hopelessly backward in their political and social outlook. Progress does not take place at the same rate in different places. Some parts of the United States, such as New England, New York, and California are eminently progressive and will continue to be. They are closely followed by Washington, Pennylvania, Minnesota, and the rest of the Midwest except for Indiana.
But the Deep South appears to be the most recalcitrant to change. They, despite their large numbers of African-American citizens, managed to come out for Romney. What do these crackers have in common with a rich person from Massachuetts, I don't know. Maybe they are more susceptible to fear messages than most due to the lower levels of education and culture. Maybe it's the perverse culture that fosters these ideas.
How can a region that proclaims itself so Christian have such attitudes? It is hard to reconcile racism and professed Christianity; but so it hard to reconcile the militarism so pronounced there with Christianity. The arts languish; their idea of culture seems to be baton twirling and country music.
Their Christianity is really a veneer that is in the form of prayers before public events and other visible piety. Their girls dress like strippers when at the beach. Their politicians regularly lie with no shame and appeal to the worst of human nature. Of course, they routinely elect morons who cater to their baser motives.
It seems to me that thse states cry out for some form of social missionary activity to bring them up to date. However, considering the cultural differences that would be overwhelming, it is a brave person indeed who would expose herself or himself to such an atmosphere.
It is true that there are enclaves of enlightenment there, such as Atlanta. But the living in some of their small towns can be numbing.

Last Night's Debate
A clear and convincing win for Barack Obama.
Hopefully, this will reverse the tide after the first one.
Paul Ryan is a loser.

On the Origins of Stupidity
I am totally amazed at how stupid a major political party's supporters can be.
It caters to the rednecks.
But how did it get to be that way? The Republican Party of the early 20th century was progressive, an engine of good ideas.
The Republican Party of the 1860's ended slavery, and reconstructed the South.
Has that party lost its soul along the way?

On the Right Way to Protest
There seems to be a right way to protest injustices and inequities, and a wrong way.
Certainly, a movement to discourage the mistreatment of animals should be encouraged, as the cause is just. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is a case in point. I'm trying to move my family more towards a vegetarian style, and making headway but suspect there's some slacking going on by less committed members, like my husband.
The poultry industry operated under horrific conditions, and a chicken never has a good day. I won't ever eat chicken!
Still, I'm not sure that carrying a sign and protesting KFC while naked is effective. It surely draws attention to the message, but it trivializes the message and prompts some of the retarded retrogrades to counterprotest, as seen below.

In my opinion, it is far more effective to use boycotting, and to write government agencies to encourage more regulations and restrictions on this shameful industry! And no good liberal should ever eat fried chicken.

First Message from the North Woods
Here is the beginning of my blog experiment and I want to see where this goes, will I come up with things to say, will I continue to have interest?
Right now there's a significant election going on, a vote to determine the conscience and future of the nation. There's nteworthy things happening in the art and music scene, and I want to be tuned in.
I hope whoever comes on this blog will like it, or at least be entertained.
My screen name is after a Sigrid Undset character. I've read all her works; she is the most significant Norwegian author of the Twentieth Century.
God bless!
